Bio
Sandra Reyes Painter, sculptor and poet
Born in Utuado, Puerto Rico, she studied Natural Sciences at the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras campus. She is essentially self-taught in the arts and has diversified her expertise in several artistic areas such as: painting in oil, acrylic, pastel, watercolor, carbon, etc; fused glass, ceramic, jewelry, engraving on metal, as well as poetry. She has participated in several individual and collective exhibits and published several writings in newspapers and local magazines.
Among the collective exhibits:
Jewelry exhibit and Exposition of Ceramics both in 1991 at the Plaza de Armas (San Juan);
"Mosaics and Pottery" at the Taina Workshop in Vieques;
"Ecological Art", Vieques, 1999;
"Art in Struggle", "Alliance of Vieques Artists" at the Fort in Vieques, 2000;
Travelling expo, "Women: different forms, different medium, on life", in San Lorenzo, Humacao, Gurabo and Manatí 2003;
"Reflections", Fort in Vieques 2004;
"Introspections", Fort in Vieques, 2005;
"Among Family", Fort in Vieques, 2007.
Her individual exhibitions include:

"We are Vieques", 2002;
"Paintings and Poetry", 2004;
"Chromatic Rythms", 2008;
anforae of light (dedicated to cancer survivors-2009)

--all of these at the Fort in Vieques. Some of these exhibits have been shown in different universities and galleries in Puerto rico. Sandra is also known for her work on murals at several public and private buildings in and outside of Vieques.
Her versatility is notable and can be appreciated in the variety of medium and her emphasis on detail. Her passion is not only overwhelming, but also reveals the intimate relationship between the artist and her work. Sandra's art can be found in several private collections on Vieques, in Puerto Rico, the United States, Nicaragua, the collection of the Fort Count Mirasol Museum and the Puerto Rico Tourism office in Vieques.
